Glove Classification

Rubber insulating gloves are available in six ASTM defined voltage classes from class 00 through class 4. Rubber dipped sleeves are available in Class 0 through 4. The chart identifies the class, proof test voltage and maximum allowable exposure voltage. Each glove manufactured to ASTM D120 has a color-coded label with the size, class and corresponding color for the glove class.

Our lab tests all rubber gloves for the AC-rated voltage for 1.5 minutes for recertification and 3 minutes for brand new gloves.

Leather Protectors

Per OSHA requirements, leather protectors are worn on the outside the rubber gloves to protect the rubber. Rubber gloves are sometimes referred to as a "liner" for this reason. Protectors are sized to the corresponding glove size (i.e. Size 10 to Size 10). Protectors are required to be shorter than the rubber gloves by a minimum distance depending on the glove class: Class 00 and 0 is 0.5"; Class 1 is 1"; Class 2 is 2"; Class 3 is 3"; Class 4 is 4".

Glove Hand Sizing

Rubber gloves are sized according to the circumference of the palm in inches. Measure around the palm (excluding the thumb) and add 1-inch to allow additional room. Most rubber gloves are available in size 7 through 12 including half sizes. Half sizes are indicated with an "H" at the end of the part number.

Glove Kits

We sell standard glove kits with the rubber gloves, leather protectors and storage bags. The leather protectors are selected to the correct size and length for the selected rubber glove. Storage bags are a good method for storing rubber gloves when they are not being used. It is recommend gloves are also stored in a cool and dry environment for proper care.

Low Voltage Glove Options

Low Voltage gloves include Class 00 and Class 0 ratings with maximum usage at 500 V-AC and 1000 V-AC, respectively.

Salisbury gloves, our main offering, has part numbers displayed by the voltage, glove length, color, and size. For example, part number PE011Y.10 is a class 0, 11", yellow, and size 10. Low voltage gloves are available in 11" and 14" lengths; colors black, red, yellow, synthetic blue; and sizes 7 through 12 including half-sizes (designated by an "H" after the size).
